Switching your GP in Zurich — what you need to know

Many patients hesitate to switch their GP — out of uncertainty, not satisfaction. In Switzerland, the process is straightforward. Here are the key points.

Medical records and transfer

In Switzerland, you have the right to your medical records. Your previous doctor is obliged to hand them over or forward them to your new GP. In practice, this takes one to two weeks. You can arrange the transfer directly when registering with us.

What to bring to your first appointment

Insurance card (KVG/OKP), a current medication list, and — if available — your latest lab results. The more information we have from the start, the more targeted your care can be. More details on our new patients page.

Insurance and GP models

If you have a GP model (Hausarztmodell) with your insurer, you need to notify them of the change. This is usually done by phone or online form. Without a GP model, no extra step is needed — just come to us.

Why patients switch to us

The most common reasons I hear: too little time per consultation, no thorough investigation, or simply a doctor who is no longer available. We offer a structured initial assessment, take time, and investigate thoroughly.

Next step: Book a consultation to discuss your health in detail.
